Cardigan Onesie — TAKE 2
Posted: November 6, 2012 Filed under: Crafts 9 CommentsSo, when I started my cardigan onesie making process, I committed to make one for four different families that are expecting boys in the next few months. The first one was tough, but I chalked that up to a learning curve. The second one was still tedious, but much easier. And the third and fourth ones were a nightmare. I posted about my frustration on Facebook and a friend pointed me in the direction of THIS tutorial that took the original idea and simplified it. OH. EM. GEE. I went from spending almost 3 hours on one cardigan to whipping them out in 30 minutes or less.
Here’s a side by side comparison…the first version is on the left, the new version is on the right.
Instead of using jersey knit (the BANE of my existence!!) for the lining, I used bias tape. SO MUCH EASIER. Also, I used buttons instead of snaps. I just sewed the two sides together while sewing the button on so they’re not technically functional, but what baby needs functioning buttons on his cardigan?? I haven’t decided if I like the look of the buttons or snaps better…
So…what do you think?? Do you like one version better than the other? Do you prefer buttons or snaps?
Those are so cute! I like the buttons better. I wish I was crafty, but I’m not. I don’t know how you have time to do anything with 2 little ones. I feel like I don’t have an extra moment in the day most of the time!
Thanks, Jen! I mostly work during naptime or after they go to bed. Crafting keeps me sane!! 🙂
I’m so sorry you had so much trouble sewing the knit! I feel really bad, because I have a really hard time with bias binding sew I prefer to use knit. I’m glad you found something that worked for you! I like the look of both the buttons and the snaps.
Don’t worry about it! Honestly, I’m definitely an amateur when it comes to sewing so I’m sure that’s why I had so much trouble 😉
could you please tell me what kind of binding tape you used…I am trying to make these for a shower and don’t think i bought the right kind :o) thank you!!
I use extra wide double fold bias tape from Hobby Lobby or JoAnn’s 🙂
