Our Celebration of Advent

I’m so excited to be doing a celebration of Advent in our home this year.  I love the anticipation and expectation of what is to come coupled with a purposeful reflection of why we are celebrating in the first place.  Reuben is beginning to grasp more and more concepts so I want to take advantage of it!  Also, this gives Mommy and Daddy special things to do with Reuben each day.  Being a big brother is tough work so I’m always looking for opportunities to have some one-on-one time or make him feel extra special and loved.

I used my Silhouette to make these stockings and then strung them across our fireplace.  I’m hoping the stockings last for several years!  Nick and I came up with (with the help of several blogs and websites) 24 activities for our family to tuck inside each stocking.

Here’s what we’ll be up to this month as we anticipate the ultimate celebration of the birth of our Savior:

  1. Pop popcorn and watch a Christmas movie
  2. Visit Santa
  3. Buy a toy for our Toy Drive at church
  4. Go to Rhema to look at Christmas lights
  5. Make a Santa door hanger
  6. Drink hot cocoa
  7. Make a candy cane reindeer
  8. Sponsor a Compassion child and write our first letter (I’m SOOO excited about this one!!!)
  9. Make a shape wreath
  10. Make snowflakes
  11. Love and Respect Christmas party
  12. Visit Santa
  13. Take Christmas cards to the Post Office
  14. Bake cookies for teachers
  15. Christmas program at school
  16. Make a salt dough hand ornament
  17. Buy Gabriella a Christmas present
  18. Color a Christmas picture
  19. Read a Christmas book
  20. Make a gingerbread house
  21. Make ornaments
  22. Make Puppy Chow with Mommy
  23. Celebrate Christmas at Cammie and PaPa’s house
  24. Christmas Eve service at church

We will also be using the e-book “Truth in the Tinsel: An Advent Experience for Little Hands” for additional craft and discussion ideas. You can get it HERE. (I used the code “momcreative” and got $1 off, but I’m not sure how long this discount lasts!)

I’m loving this new tradition we’re beginning in our home and I’m very excited to see how our Advent celebration changes each year!
